The Confraternity of Pastors of Oaxaca and its believers denounced at the monument to Benito Juárez that four families from the town of Cerro Cajón, in the municipality of San Juan Lalana, were displaced for not professing the Catholic religion.

“They stole their cell phones, destroyed their crops, set fire to their house of prayer and even beat them and locked them up. We demand an end to this religious intolerance,” they said.

The 50 people demanded that the government allow the four families to return to their home.

“It is an exaggeration that these families are displaced for not being Catholic, we demand that Salomón Jara (governor) return them to their homes; it is urgent that the criminalization and this type of racism that damages the community life of the people be calmed,” they said.

The head of the Secretariat of Government (Sego), Jesús Romero López, reported that attention is already being provided in the municipality of San Juan Lalana for the conflict over religious intolerance that occurred in Cerro Cajón, belonging to the San Isidro Arenal agency.

In a statement, he said that on August 16, the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO) carried out a procedure at the site.

He added that by agreement of the assembly, the community proceeded to the arrest of four people from Cerro Cajón, who were held in the community jail and released hours later after a dialogue in which the Peace Delegation in the region participated.

This social conflict is not new in Oaxaca, it happened years ago in the town of San Francisco del Mar “Pueblo viejo”, where people were displaced.
