To date, Puerto Peñasco is the only municipality in Sonora that has four beaches certified as clean and several national and international awards, under three modalities, said Luis César García González.

The director of the Federal Maritime and Land Zone (Zofemat) of Puerto Peñasco pointed out that due to this circumstance, the Rocaportense coastlines are an example in the State, from 2017 to date, which, therefore, brings more random benefits to the community in general that subsists, directly or indirectly, from tourism and other related areas.

WHAT DOES THIS CERTIFICATION MEAN?

With these accreditations, the destination endorses the commitment to care for the environment and the quality of its beaches, in addition to guaranteeing cleanliness, in which there is a commitment to the conservation of these that make it a national reference, said García González.

Sanitation is guaranteed by constant monitoring of the bacteriological quality of seawater and sand, as well as permanent environmental education programs.

“And not only focused on beach users, but also on the institutions involved and the general public, ensuring, at the same time, safety with lifeguards, paramedics and permanent surveillance through the Auxiliary Tourism Unit that is in charge of enforcing the Municipal Regulations for Beach Use,” he said.

Also, he said, inclusive spaces have been adapted for disabled people or those with limited mobility, with the availability of amphibious chairs, retractable mats and exclusive palapas, as well as ramps, toilets and showers, among other things.
