A new caravan of migrants entered Oaxaca territory this morning. Some people camped in the municipality of Chahuites and others continued walking on the Pan-American Highway 190, heading to San Pedro Tapanatepec.

The migrants, some 600 men, women and minors, entered the limits of the Oaxacan municipality of Chahuites, around six o’clock this Sunday morning, after walking 44 kilometers from the Chiapas city of Arriaga.

For the moment, the 430 men, 150 women and some 80 boys and girls, walk under the care of the National Guard (GN), the National Institute of Migration (INM) and the Beta Group. There is no presence of representatives of the Oaxacan government.

This could be the seventh or eighth caravan that passes through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, with the migrants’ final goal of reaching the United States of America (USA), to reunite with their families or find better opportunities for life that they did not find in their country.

Just yesterday, the members of the caravan called “Jesus Christ” asked from the Veracruz town of Medias Aguas, the intervention of the United Nations (UN), so that the Mexican government allows them to board the buses and continue their journey in better conditions.

The majority of the migrants of that caravan known as “Jesus Christ” left the Oaxacan territory on the 20th of this month, after hard walks for 14 days since they arrived in San Pedro Tapanatepec, without any medical attention other than that provided by the INM’s Beta Group.

Now, the members of this new caravan, who will surely rest in Tapanatepec before walking to Zanatepec, Niltepec, Ingenio Santo Domingo and Juchitán, will be able to count on the medical attention of Doctors Without Borders in this last city.

The director of Health of the Juchitecan government, Lilibeht Jiménez Robles, revealed that on the 19th of this month, the coordinator of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), will establish a clinic in this city of Juchitecan, where the increase in the presence of migrants is noticeable, and give them the necessary attention.

Behind this new caravan of migrants that entered the Isthmus of Tehuantepec today, comes another, whose members camp in the Chiapas cities of Tonalá and Arriaga, there are about a thousand, the authorities say, who would be entering the territory of Oaxaca by the end of the week.
