In recent months, the mayor of Mérida, Alejandro Ruz, assured that the Vergel Water Park was in optimal condition for the enjoyment of citizens. However, the reality today is different: a site sunk in abandonment, covered by weeds, and severely affected by flooding caused by heavy rains.
The Vergel Water Park is not an isolated case but rather an example of the problems faced by some constructions in the city. Due to its poor design, the park floods every time it rains.
The current conditions of the park pose a danger to the residents of the area. The paths, now overgrown with weeds and mud, are practically impassable, increasing the risk of accidents for those trying to cross the area. The flooding has even brought the appearance of fish swimming in the waters covering the park.
Additionally, the stagnant water has become an ideal habitat for the proliferation of mosquitoes, increasing the risk of diseases such as dengue.
Despite numerous complaints from neighbors, municipal authorities have yet to implement measures to resolve this situation.
