These are the five best-rated mayors in Mexico

On the eve of the renewal of various mayorships throughout the country, after the elections of June 2, 2024, a ranking was released with the people who were best evaluated at the national level for their performance in office. The study evaluated various variants among which were security, perception of corruption, among others.

A survey carried out by CE Research released the top 5 of the best evaluated mayors at the national level. The list highlighted the presence of Geraldine Ponce, mayor of Tepic, Nayarit, who was the only female representative of Morena to appear among the top five in a category.

Due to the difference in size, both in territorial extension and in number of inhabitants, two categories were released divided into large and medium-sized cities. It is worth mentioning that most of the mayors considered in the ranking belong to districts located in states in the north of the country.

Between August 18 and 25, 2024, nearly 14,800 telephone surveys were conducted with residents of various municipalities in the country. As a result, each of the characters who appeared on the list of the best evaluated did so thanks to obtaining ratings above 60% approval from the citizens who live in their jurisdictions.

According to the list, the five best profiles in the category of medium-sized cities were:

  1. Miguel Treviño de Hoyos (Independent) – San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León.

2, Adolfo Colín Sánchez (PAN) – Corregidora Querétaro.

  1. Mauricio Trejo Pureco (PRI) – San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
  2. Cristina Díaz Salazar (PRI) – Guadalupe, Nuevo León.
  3. Geraldine Ponce Méndez (Morena) – Tepic, Nayarit.

On the other hand, the five best-rated mayors in large cities were:

  1. Luis Nava (PAN) – Querétaro, Querétaro.
  2. Pedro Rodríguez Villegas (PAN) – Atizapán, State of Mexico.
  3. Luis Donaldo Colosio (MC) – Monterrey, Nuevo León.
  4. Francisco Ramírez Salcido (MC) – Guadalajara, Jalisco
  5. Cruz Pérez Cuellar (Morena) – Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

Geraldine Ponce, the best-rated Morena mayor in the country
As part of the five best profiles in the mayorships of the medium-sized cities evaluated in the study, the presence of Geraldine Ponce stood out, who is the representative of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) best positioned in the category, as well as the only woman belonging to the political party on the list.

The mayor of Tepic, Geraldine Ponce Méndez, is ranked fifth in an evaluation that included 40 mayors of medium-sized cities, according to a study conducted by CE Research. This ranking considers cities with less than 600 thousand inhabitants and evaluates performance in various areas of public service.

The score obtained by Ponce Méndez is based on an average of satisfaction responses on issues such as security, lighting services, cleaning, paving, drinking water, parks, gardens and the perception of corruption in different administrative departments. With an approval rating of 65.08%, Tepic is behind the mayors of San Pedro Garza, Nuevo León (70.3%), Corregidora, Querétaro (69.8%), San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato (68.56%) and Guadalupe, Nuevo León (67.69%).

In addition to the services mentioned, the perception of corruption was one of the critical areas evaluated in the study. This type of study allows citizens to know and compare the performance of their local representatives. The ranking involves mayors from different political parties, with five Morena members, three PRI members, one PAN member and one independent represented in the top ten.

It is worth mentioning that, after the most recent elections, Geraldine Ponce was re-elected as mayor of Tepic, in the state of Nayarit. In fact, in the weeks prior to the renewal of her position, she received a visit from the President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to announce her support for Ponce Méndez during her administration.
