In the midst of the heavy rain that fell in the capital, for a man from Guanajuato it was the perfect opportunity to carry out a feat that seemed unthinkable. He got his equipment ready and went out in a kayak in the Subterranea for a few meters against the current, and survived to tell the tale.

Exclusively, Andrés Emanuel Torres Segoviano, pioneer of Aventura Total Guanajuato and his ecotourism agency, said that he is the only person, along with his partner, to travel the flooded Subterranea of Guanajuato, where the opportunity made the feat a reality.

“The water recognizes its path and will go back down, but we already had the idea of going down in a kayak. We love adventure, we are very adventurous. We had already seen that there is a lot of water circulating in the Underground and we wanted to experience our surroundings in a different way,” Emanuel Torres explained.

In Guanajuato capital, the surroundings, landscapes and natural spaces are the perfect opportunity to try new things, and Andrés puts his passion for adventures into action.

“Guanajuato always has magic. The idea was already planned, but yesterday was a coincidence. We were coming from a family time at the Mata Dam with all our equipment, and when we saw the flood, it was the passion, the dream of doing it. We have the experience in kayaking,” he said.

For Andrés and his partner, preparation and prevention is everything, since their equipment is specialized for calm waters and not for strong waters like those last Sunday. However, they detected a strong current and waited for the level to drop to the point of doing it safely, while they navigated around the heart of the city.

“We could already feel that experience and it was something immersive. In the end, we did go kayaking down there. It is an important issue that on television they tell us that the acts are performed by professionals and appear to be easy, but it was not,” he said.
