Funds are being raised so that puppies can fly to their new home in Canada

Alma Animal Tulum busca fondos para que perros tengan hogar en Canadá

For almost three years, Alma Animal Tulum began rescuing dogs and cats that lived in conditions of abuse and abandonment in this town in Quintana Roo, which despite being considered one of the most attractive places for tourism in Mexico, also has a large population of abandoned animals.

This shelter currently has 158 animals waiting for a permanent home, but due to past experiences in which those who adopted some of its inhabitants did not guarantee their integrity, they are now looking for homes in Canada that can give a better opportunity to the dogs that live in Alma Animal Tulum.

“We decided to broaden our horizons, looking for adoptive families abroad, particularly in Canada, where animal welfare is a priority and families are willing to provide them with a loving and safe home. We need to carry out the corresponding studies to ensure that they are truly healthy and can fly, in order to improve their lives by finding good families and to be able to continue rescuing the many who need us here,” said Carmen Torres, one of the founders of the association.

To cover the costs of the studies needed for the “lomitos”, the shelter started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise 20 thousand pesos that are needed for the animals’ medical check-ups, since they are international requirements for transporting animals, in addition to ensuring that the dogs can adapt without problems to their new environment.

“We are committed to improving the lives of these animals by finding good families abroad, which will also allow us to free up space and resources to continue rescuing the many who need us here in Tulum. Every dog that finds a home in Canada opens a space in the shelter so that another animal in need can be rescued, rehabilitated and eventually adopted,” added Torres.
