Who is Ricardo Martin, leader of the Gulf Cartel in Tamaulipas who was arrested after Sedena intercepted his calls with a corrido singer

On Thursday, August 29, the arrest of a member of the Gulf Cartel in the state of Tamaulipas was announced, after elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) deployed an operation in the criminal member’s own residence.

This is Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Martín, a criminal operator who is part of the ‘Los Escorpiones’ cell. His arrest took place in the Residencial Privadas de las Fuentes subdivision, located in the city of Reynosa, where his home is located.

Agents from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), the Mexican Army, the National Guard and the Navy (Semar) participated in the operation and entered the exclusive subdivision, while a security device was maintained at the entrance and exit of the place.

Unofficially, it was announced that Ricardo Martín’s arrest was made after authorities intercepted the phone calls he had with an alleged corrido singer, whose identity was kept confidential and with whom he was negotiating the composition of a musical theme.

It was reported that after his arrest, Ricardo Martín left the subdivision in the middle of a convoy of patrol cars that headed to the “Benito Juárez” International Airport in Reynosa. It is presumed that this criminal operator will be transferred to the offices of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Mexico City (CDMX).

Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Martín is identified as a lieutenant of Los Metros in Miguel Alemán, which is why he is considered a relevant actor within the Gulf Cartel in the border state of Tamaulipas.

Among the criminal activities he used to carry out are the kidnapping of migrants, collection of fees, as well as theft and trafficking of fuel (a crime that is also known as “huachicol”).

Ricardo Martín operated under the direction of Hugo Armando “N”, alias ‘La Cabra’ and/or ‘Metro 7’. This subject was arrested at the end of April 2023 in Tamaulipas and at that time he was attributed with 23 attacks on civil authorities and military personnel.

‘La Cabra’ was the boss of the Los Metros plaza in the municipalities of Miguel Alemán, Camargo and Comales. He was dedicated to drug trafficking and human trafficking to the United States (USA). At the time of his arrest he possessed 600 synthetic drug pills, two firearms, two magazines and 37 cartridges.

Following his arrest, Ricardo Martín was in charge of directing the businesses that ‘La Cabra’ managed. However, so far the crime or crimes for which he was arrested last week have not been disclosed.

Los Metros is one of the strongest and most structured criminal cells belonging to the Gulf Cartel. Its creation is attributed to Mario Cárdenas Guillén, brother of Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, leader of said organization who was released from prison in the United States at the end of August.
