C. Cuevas continues to see private sector development potential in Ensenada

Despite the shortcomings in urban mobility, hydraulic infrastructure and other areas, the private sector continues to see great development potential in the municipality, said César Cuevas Ceceña, former state and municipal official in relevant departments, now an independent consultant in the field.

During his participation in the weekly meeting of Mexican Companies of the Construction Industry of Ensenada (COMICE) headed by Sergio Torres Martínez, the expert indicated that with the publication of the Urban Development Program of the Population Center of Ensenada (PDUCP), issues such as tourism are being rescued as one of the most important potentials.

On the subject, Cuevas Ceceña pointed out that, in the Punta Banda area in the south of the urban area, there are important investment projects that bring with them the self-satisfaction of their needs in terms of services, which is a great advantage.

In El Sauzal, in the north of the city, there are 4 or 5 new projects for vertical tourist developments or residential towers for which there is a real estate market coming from the United States and other cities in the State. He clarified that some of these projects have been stopped since 2008.

To ensure that the tourist activity is consolidated, he warned, a series of elements need to be resolved, such as the Sectorial Plan for Tourist Development.

On the other hand, the urban development consultant highlighted the existence of other sectors such as fishing, in which aquaculture and refrigerators have maintained sustained growth during the last few years.

He pointed out that the General Guidelines for Development of the La Misión-Ensenada Zone were recently published, in which a territorial reserve of the coastal corridor with a surface area of about 19,000 hectares is incorporated, in which tourist, industrial, energy and equipment vocations were defined.

Before the COMICE membership, he also said that there are 4 thousand hectares in development in the Meseta del Tigre, the coast and La Misión, linked to the construction of the alternate route to the Carretera Escénica and that it is expected to become a reality in the next federal administration.

That route, he explained, would connect the Mesa del Tigre and the Ensenada Bypass, also generating an important Logistics Center that would be added to the airport project, which is intended to be of a tourist nature.

In that same area, the Tecate-Ensenada railroad would be contemplated, which would help solve the traffic congestion problems in Ensenada.

The Mesa del Tigre, added Cuevas Ceceña, could also be a very interesting alternative for industrial and technological development in the north of Ensenada.
