On the afternoon of Saturday, September 7, a landslide was recorded near the federal highway 120 San Juan del Río-Xilitla, at kilometer 147, at the entrance to the municipality of Pinal de Amoles, in the state of Querétaro.
According to local media reports, the municipal president of Pinal de Amoles, Guadalupe Ramírez Plaza, reported that work in the area could take up to 2 days because the rock slide continues, so it was not possible to intervene with machinery.
“We are already making arrangements with the State Government, because our governor immediately ordered that heavy machinery be coming out at this time, since there were around 400 m³, that is, it is a total collapse,” she explained.
The Civil Protection Coordination of the State of Querétaro reported that no injuries were reported after the hill collapse. He also explained that the accident is being attended to with the support of machinery and operational personnel by the Querétaro State Infrastructure Commission, together with local authorities, to carry out work to remove the material and restore vehicular traffic.
Due to the magnitude of the landslide, the Civil Protection Coordination asks for patience from the users of this road and urges them not to circulate through the area, since vehicular traffic is currently closed.
For its part, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) of the State of Querétaro, reported that the approximate time of work in the area will be 8 hours, so it urges the population to take alternate routes while the removal of the material is carried out.
According to local media, given the magnitude of the landslide, it was decided to suspend the celebrations of the first anniversary of the municipality’s naming as a Magical Town, while cleanup work is carried out in the area.
