Family Blocks IE-Tram Lane to Pressure for Continued Rent Payments

Mr. Tomás Garrido and his family blocked the IE-Tram lane next to the T1 “Ignacio García Tellez” Hospital in Mérida.

According to his version, the Institute of Mobility and Territorial Urban Development (Imdut) committed to constructing a new building on his property, located next to the IE-Tram lanes on 39th Street, as compensation for having ceded a significant part of his land (about 11 meters long by 3 meters wide) for the electric transport infrastructure.

Sources consulted indicate that the Institute of Mobility indeed delivered his new house in December 2023 as compensation for ceding part of his property for the IE-Tram. However, before receiving the new house, he was supported with the rent of a house for six months.

However, Garrido has currently rented out the property he received from the State Government but is demanding that he continue to be paid the rent he received for six months as compensation, which was not part of the original agreement he accepted.

To pressure for the continuation of the benefit and with arguments outside the truth, yesterday Garrido decided to close the section that borders his property, causing the IE-Tram to have to pass through the entrance of T1 to return to La Plancha, which has caused severe disruptions to the users of the transport service in that populated area of the city.
