Violence in Sinaloa ‘reaches’ Durango: Mazatlán-Dgo highway closed by armed men

Since the night of September 12, the Durango-Mazatlán highway was closed in both directions, after users reported the burning of various vehicles, the presence of tire-puncturing vehicles and apparent criminal acts.

In a video spread through social networks, at least a dozen trucks and at least 20 or 30 armed civilians were seen on the free highway from Durango to Mazatlán, presumably at the height of Palmito and Concordia, on the Sinaloa side and traveling towards Durango.

Capufe reported on its official “X” account, formerly Twitter, that said highway closed traffic due to an incident: “For the safety of the users of the Coscomate and Mesillas toll booths, they will remain closed. Take your precautions.”

What is happening on the Mazatlán-Durango highway?

Users and transporters shared a video on social media, where you can see a pair of heavy-duty vehicles crossed and set on fire, they also showed large-caliber shells, tire-punctures and warned about the risks.

The highway to Durango has remained closed for almost 12 hours and there is already a significant backlog of people who travel this highway daily.

Unofficial versions indicate that this is a narco-blockade derived from the activity of two groups fighting for territory, allegedly cells linked to “El Mayo” Zambada and cells of the “Chapitos.”

The Secretary of Public Security, Oscar Galván Villarreal, said that elements of the State Police, National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense keep the entity sealed off to avoid violent events, given the situation of insecurity that Culiacán is experiencing and the proximity that exists between both entities, which border through municipalities such as San Dimas, Pueblo Nuevo and Tamazula.

The municipality of San Dimas, located in Durango, warned of clashes very close to the area and ordered the suspension of the Grito de Independencia on September 15 and 16, as well as sporting events and classes in schools.

They even closed businesses early and residents were sheltered in their homes amid a power outage.
