Summer vacations reflected an increase in foreign tourists for the Tampico Airport, while national passengers served during July are down compared to the same period last year, generally reflected in a reduction of 1.1 percent annually.
According to data from the Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), the air destination in the southern area of Tamaulipas recorded more than 311 thousand visitors in all of 2024, lower than the 314 thousand detected in 2023. In the recent month alone, the drop is 2.2 percent in total, despite being ahead in the arrival of citizens with passports from another country.
Through the airlines Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobús, Aerus and United, 52,237 tourists traveled to this town on dates that coincided with the start of the summer vacation season, which lasts until the end of August. This number was below the previous cycle, when it closed at 53,406.
The activity in the industrial and port sectors maintains the presence of foreigners and in the terminal it is shown with the annual increase of 0.6 percent, in addition to the rate being at 4 percent in July, with 6,392 users documenting at the counters and traveling to Mexico City, Monterrey or even Houston, the only flight outside of Mexico.
The above is different from the movement of Mexicans. The 45 thousand people fell short by 3 percent to reach the goal of last year, while from January to July the negative difference is 1.3 percent, with almost 280 thousand travelers.
Reynosa, the second airport managed by Grupo OMA in the territory, also suffers a decrease of 1.2 percent, since the 300 thousand national and foreign visits together are insufficient to exceed the previous data. Thus, the national trend in the 13 terminals is a decline of 2.4 percent this year.
