Authorities have not provided further details about the crime, nor have they confirmed if it is a homicide.

On the morning of this Friday, a man of presumed American origin was found dead in a room at the City Express Suites Hotel, located in front of the Costamed Hospital in Playa del Carmen.

The discovery occurred around 10:00 AM on September 13, following a citizen report that alerted authorities to the presence of a body in the lodging center on 50 Norte Avenue, which mobilized elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the State Attorney General’s Office.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was found face down and had blood stains on his face, arms, and other parts of his body, leading authorities to consider the possibility that he was tortured before his death. Although the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, initial investigations suggest that he was a foreigner of American origin.

Elements of the Municipal Police and the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the scene to begin the corresponding procedures. The agents cordoned off the scene and collected evidence to clarify the circumstances of the death. The body was later transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) to perform an autopsy and determine the cause of death more precisely.

Authorities have not provided further details about the motive for the crime nor confirmed if it is a homicide or if the deceased was linked to any illicit activity. Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office continues the investigations and reviews security cameras around the hotel to obtain more information.
