CDMX is considered the best cultural destination in the world; it is above Prague, New York and Madrid

The famous Time Out magazine, a renowned guide for travelers, has named Mexico City (CDMX) as the best cultural destination worldwide, ranking above important cities in this sector, such as New York, Paris and Madrid. This is thanks to its great cultural diversity, its enormous offer of museums of all kinds and its varied gastronomy.

Time Out magazine is dedicated to offering reviews to inspire travelers to visit the best places on the planet, and awards different recognitions to the best destinations and gastronomy in different cities around the world. Time Out was born in London in 1968, and today it is active in more than 50 countries.

On this occasion, the recognition for the city with the greatest cultural influx went to Mexico City (CDMX), considered one of the largest cities in the world and which currently has approximately 185 museums of all kinds, a very particular architectural beauty and a rich and generous cultural past.

The magazine recognizes the Mexican capital as the best cultural destination on the planet. The designation was given to Mexico City last November 2023 and among the first places of the most important cities for their culture were: Prague, capital of Czechoslovakia; Cape Town in South Africa; Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina and Athens, in Greece.

It should be noted that Mexico City is one of the most visited places by tourists, both national and international, and among other factors that made it win as the best cultural city in the world, there are also its many open-air festivals, its typical Day of the Dead parade, and its varied theatrical offering, in addition to its museums, galleries, and buildings of great historical importance.

The study carried out by Time Out highlighted various places in the Mexican capital, such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Soumaya Museum, the Kurimanzutto gallery, the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Festival del Centro Histórico, with its many artistic presentations.

In the words of Time Out: “CDMX’s museums display everything from Aztec artifacts and folk art to surrealist paintings, and many of them are housed in spectacular buildings.”

The colonial beauty of many of the capital’s neighborhoods, as well as its incomparable gastronomy, influenced CDMX to be considered the best cultural destination.

To reach this conclusion, Time Out conducted a survey among around 21,000 residents of different cities around the world. The Mexican capital stood out for the quality of its cultural and artistic scene, capable of providing a unique experience to all its inhabitants and visitors, guaranteeing access to people’s cultural rights.
