The Chef Meets

Ensenada, Baja California, September 11, 2024.- The platform that brings together international Michelin chefs with national chefs and traditional cooks, The Chef Meets Mexico, presented by Citibanamex Blackrock, returns with its 18th edition. This edition will take place on October 3 and 4 at the emblematic Plaza Santo Tomás in Ensenada with the support of the Baja California Tourism Secretariat, which actively works on the development and execution of programs based on sustainability to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants, and the Secretariat of Economy, focused on promoting and boosting commerce, business activities and innovation.

This event celebrates the growing recognition of Baja California as a world-renowned culinary destination. Recently highlighted in the Michelin Guide as one of the six most important culinary destinations in Mexico, this recognition underlines the region’s rising prestige in the gastronomic field and consolidates its position as a top-level destination.

At the same time, the event highlights the importance of sustainability in gastronomy. Baja California is positioned as a benchmark in sustainable practices, not only from the chefs’ perspective, but also thanks to the support of local producers who support this vision. At The Chef Meets Mexico, attendees are invited to reflect on the protection of the planet through a comprehensive two-day experience, which emphasizes the conscious use of seafood, in collaboration with Comepesca and Pesca Con Futuro, as well as the land, with Cengrow, an organic ranch.

The edition will take place at Plaza Santo Tomás, an urban project of great relevance for lovers of good wine, food, music and art, located in one of the most important wine-producing areas of our country, in Ensenada in the State of Baja California, characterized by being a social, cultural and gastronomic meeting point in recent years.

With a focus on sustainable gastronomy, The Chef Meets Baja California will be a green edition, Farm To Table. It will feature the participation of renowned Chefs Xune Andrade, awarded with a green star and a red Michelin star; David Castro Hussong, a Mexican chef recommended in the Michelin Guide with his restaurants: Bruma Wine Garden (BC) and El Tigre Silencioso (CDMX); and chef Maribel Aldaco, who will be in charge of the dessert table, which will be presented by La Canasta. Together they will offer two exclusive dinners that will fuse Michelin cuisine with sustainable local products, accompanied by pairings with Santo Tomás wines and cocktails from Mezcal The Lost Explorer, Gin Californias and the jewel in the crown of Casa Cuervo’s tequila, Reserva de la familia.

As in all its editions, The Chef Meets Mexico will include an art exhibition to raise funds to grant SEP scholarships to traditional cooks through the Conservatory of Mexican Gastronomic Culture. On this occasion, the exhibition will be held in collaboration with the Secretariat of Culture of Baja California.

This effort is part of the program “Two Ways to Make Art and One Heart for Mexico,” promoted together with Citibanamex, which seeks to empower women chefs and preserve ancestral culinary practices. The event will also feature the prominent participation of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Tourism of Baja California. The Coral & Marina and Hotel Encuentro Guadalupe hotels will be the hotels hosting the event.

Standing out in this edition, Antonia Torres González, a traditional Cucapá cook from Baja California and representative of one of the five indigenous ethnic groups of the State, will be the protagonist by showing the rich history and gastronomy of her people. Her participation will be a central point to appreciate and value ancestral culinary traditions.
