Tamaulipas inaugurates the fourth longest tunnel in Mexico, named after a former governor

The construction of the almost two-kilometer tunnel on the Mante-Ocampo-Tula highway will mark a dynamic to trigger new development opportunities for Tamaulipas, as stated by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, after witnessing the historic moment in which the connection of the two excavation fronts was completed.

The state leader, accompanied by the general director of Grupo Hycsa, Alejandro Calzada Pratz, and Ramón Alonso Casanova Hernández, CFO and CEO of Grupo Hycsa, walked inside the 1,815-meter-long tunnel, the fourth longest on a highway in Mexico.

Tunnel will bear the name of former Governor Américo Villarreal Guerra
In addition, it is the only one that was built during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which will bear the name of former Governor Américo Villarreal Guerra. There they witnessed how two excavating machines knocked down the rock wall, achieving the interconnection, after several months of work.

This important work will connect Tamaulipas with the center of the country and will allow the states of Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, and San Luis Potosí to have a communication route that will speed up transportation.

“A more timely and faster exit to the sea through this highway that will reduce times and increase the safety of cargo transportation. This will surely give an important dynamic to the national economy and especially to the state,” said the state leader.
Villarreal Anaya highlighted that this key moment in the development of the new highway coincides with a date as significant as the national holidays and the upcoming start of the government of the first president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

No accidents during the construction of the tunnel

For his part, the general director of the Hycsa Group, Alejandro Calzada Pratz, explained that by joining both ends of the tunnel, it is guaranteed that the most complex part of the work is already overcome and in which they managed to leave zero work accidents.

“Governor, I do not want to fail to point out that this tunnel has been built with zero accidents, and that is why I would like to ask your permission to offer a round of applause to all the collaborators involved in this project,” he said.

Also present at this ceremony, held at the entrance point to the tunnel: the deputy general director of Banca de Infraestructura Banorte, Raúl Carreto; the director of Banco Agente Banobras, Aracely Díaz; the director of Banco SUMITOMO, Agustín Alaníz; as well as the Secretary of Public Works, Pedro Cepeda Anaya and the Undersecretary of Land Routes, Juan Carlos Mendiola.

Let us remember that the fourth longest tunnel in Mexico will be inaugurated in Tamaulipas, which will be named in honor of a former governor.
