
The manufacturing industry generated 2 out of 10 jobs in Tamaulipas during the second quarter of 2024, consolidating itself as the main economic activity of the state.
According to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), 336,879 people were part of the workforce in this sector, representing 20.9% of the employed population, which totaled 1,611,912 workers. This growth positions manufacturing above other sectors such as commerce, transportation, agriculture, social services, professionals, government, construction, hospitality, among others.
In addition, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), which prepares the ENOE, reported that the extractive and electricity industry also contributed 18,790 jobs, strengthening the industrial sector.
Manufacturing in Tamaulipas covers various industrial sectors from electrical-electronic, automotive, aerospace, chemical, medical, energy, logistics, among others, which supports the presence of international companies such as LG, Caterpillar, Eaton, Alcom, Emerson, Corning, Flex, Johnson Controls and many others.
Industry maintains jobs 2023-2024
Although the employed population of Tamaulipas decreased between the second half of 2023 and 2024, the jobs generated by the manufacturing industry remained above 20% with a difference of -0.4% in this period.
On the other hand, the ENOE highlighted that of the 1,611,912 workers reported throughout Tamaulipas between April, May and June 2024, around 947,410 are men and 554, 502 are women, this group being the one with the greatest annual growth.
