Tamaulipas Strengthens Air and Ground Connectivity to Boost Tourism, Investment, and Business
Tamaulipas is advancing efforts to strengthen its air and ground connectivity as part of a strategy to facilitate the transportation of visitors, promote tourism, and create better conditions for investment and business.
Among the new actions is the addition of an air route connecting Nuevo Laredo, Tampico, and Cancún, which will begin operations on November 14 with two weekly frequencies, scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays.
New Route to Connect Three Destinations
Tamaulipas Tourism Secretary Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez highlighted that the new connection represents progress toward consolidating the state as a destination with greater transportation alternatives.
The route will strengthen connections between strategic cities, while also facilitating travel related to tourism, commercial activities, and business.
The announcement comes ahead of the Fiesta de Pueblos Mágicos, an event that represents an opportunity to showcase Tamaulipas’ attractions and strengthen its presence as a tourist destination.
The new route joins an air network that also includes connections to Monterrey, Nuevo León, as well as service between Ciudad Victoria and Mexico City through AIFA.
The latter connection significantly reduces travel times, facilitating the arrival of visitors and the movement of people for work or commercial purposes.
Tamaulipas currently has five airports that help strengthen air connections between different regions of the state and other destinations.
Five Airports Strengthen the State
Tamaulipas’ airport infrastructure consists of:
- General Pedro J. Méndez Airport, in Ciudad Victoria.
- General Francisco Javier Mina International Airport, in Tampico.
- Lucio Blanco International Airport, in Reynosa.
- Quetzalcóatl International Airport, in Nuevo Laredo.
- General Servando Canales International Airport, in Matamoros.
Road Modernization Promoted
The connectivity strategy also includes ground infrastructure, with investments aimed at modernizing and maintaining strategic roadways.
Among the projects is the Mante-Ocampo-Tula Highway, which contributes to improving travel within Tamaulipas.
This project will be joined by the Northern Gulf Corridor, an infrastructure project designed to connect strategic points such as Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Victoria, and Tampico.
The projects are part of joint efforts by the federal government, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and the Government of Tamaulipas, led by Américo Villarreal Anaya, to strengthen transportation infrastructure.
With increased flights and improved highways, Tamaulipas seeks to provide greater transportation options for both tourists and people involved in business activities.
The strategy aims to create a better-connected state capable of attracting more visitors, investment, and development opportunities to its different regions.
The head of the state Tourism Secretariat stated that strengthening connectivity contributes to increasing Tamaulipas’ competitiveness and positioning it as an increasingly attractive state for tourism, business, and investment.
