US is not responsible for violence in Sinaloa, says Ambassador Ken Salazar

The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, said that his country is not responsible for the shootouts that are taking place in Sinaloa.

As part of his visit to the state of Chihuahua, to meet with businessmen and politicians, Salazar also offered a press conference at the consular headquarters in Ciudad Juárez, and there he said that he does not agree with the claim that the United States is responsible for the situation of violence that Sinaloa is going through and indicated that the reality is that there is a problem of insecurity and violence in Mexico that must be resolved.

In addition, he indicated that the challenge is to solve this situation and specified that the government of his country is willing to work with the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum.

AMLO blames the US for the violence in Sinaloa

This comes after the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, considered that the United States is responsible for the violence in Sinaloa, because it negotiated with Joaquín Guzmán López the arrest of Ismael Zambada El Mayo, without informing the Mexican government.

Ten days ago, a period of violence began in Sinaloa, a “war” that has left approximately 51 murders, 64 people forcibly disappeared, at least 30 confrontations and an entire town (El Palmito, Concordia) displaced.

At the press conference, the ambassador also indicated that the United States government has collaborated with Mexico in arresting various drug lords, citing as an example the arrest of Ismael El Mayo Zambada García—one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel arrested on July 25 in El Paso, Texas, a city that borders Juárez—and noted that he personally traveled two days later to meet with Mexican prosecutors.
