To defend the expressed will of the people of Jalisco in the elections of June 2 and to show their support for the result that determined Pablo Lemus Navarro as Governor Elect of Jalisco, more than 10 thousand people, according to figures from Civil Protection Guadalajara, participated in the “March for the Defense of Jalisco.”
The demonstration was called by more than 100 civil society associations, and started from Jardín Reforma to Plaza de Armas, in the Historic Center of Guadalajara.
The attendees reiterated that the electoral process was an exemplary civic exercise, where citizen participation was massive, making it clear that society took a leading role, surpassing political parties.
We will not allow, in any way, that what we obtained legally at the polls be taken away from us (…) Throughout history, we Jalisco residents have demonstrated our strength (…), it must be very clear to the centralist authorities that the fundamental decisions of the people of Jalisco are made in Jalisco and we demand full respect for our determinations,” said Salvador Cosío Gaona, President of Confío en México A.C.
The attendees chanted slogans against the challenges to the election for the Jalisco governorship by Morena, and called on the electoral authority for a prompt resolution to the appeals presented.
“We respect that a challenge has been made, they are within their right; But we do not accept and we firmly reject that this challenge is carried out in a framework of hatred, insinuation, threats, threats, seeking to make us stop defending Jalisco with fear and terror,” said Cosío Gaona.
“The decisions of the Federal Electoral Court must be made with justice, quickly, expeditiously, transparently, in accordance with the law (…), we ask you not to let yourselves be intimidated by the Central Power,” he added.
“Jalisco spoke, and it did so in favor of Pablo Lemus,” was one of the most repeated slogans by the participants, who demanded that what happened in other parts of the country not be repeated in Jalisco, where controversial decisions by electoral courts have generated discontent.
In addition, a strong appeal was made to the electoral authorities to respect the popular will and act impartially and in accordance with the law in the challenge processes, which have so far taken place in accordance with the provisions of the law.
“With the favorable vote of a large majority, the people of Jalisco have firmly decided to make Pablo Lemus our next Governor, and that vote must be respected, that vote we must defend,” concluded Salvador Cosío.
The march was supported by civil, business, academic and union organizations. The attendees reaffirmed their commitment to remain vigilant and mobilized in defense of their state.
