2 Americans arrested for transporting fentanyl in Baja California

Two Americans were arrested while transporting shipments of fentanyl on highways in Southern California after crossing the borders with Tijuana and Mexicali.

The 123 kilograms of the opioid seized in two operations carried out in September exceeds 2 million dollars in the California drug market, which represents 40 million pesos.

During 2024, Border Patrol agents in the San Diego sector – bordering Baja California – have seized 317 kilograms of the opioid. A year earlier, in that area they seized more than 600 kilograms, almost half of the fentanyl seized in the United States by the Border Patrol.

On Interstate 5, in Orange County, in the early hours of September 19, they discovered 47 kilograms of fentanyl wrapped in 40 packages hidden in the trunk of a car.

The first fentanyl seizure in September was recorded in early September on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley.

A 22-year-old American man was caught by federal agents while driving a vehicle with nine cellophane bags in the trunk containing 76 kilograms of blue pills.

The drivers and the narcotics were handed over to the San Diego Border Crime Suppression Team for processing on state charges, while the vehicles were seized by Border Patrol.
