Hidalgo registers more than 8 thousand foreigners seeking to reach the border with the US

The National Migration Institute in Hidalgo has already implemented, as in several parts of the Republic, the Electronic Appointment system to provide assistance to all foreign people who carry out immigration regulation procedures and who seek a safe stay in Mexico while they obtain their passage to the northern border.

According to that organization, in Hidalgo there are 8,208 foreign people with a valid document to date, mainly from Colombia, Venezuela, China, Haiti, Cuba, the United States, Argentina, Honduras, El Salvador and Spain.

With the implementation of programs that allow their stay and the follow-up to their destination, 2,488 procedures have been carried out in Hidalgo, from January 2024 to September 15. The most frequent are the notification of change of address and the exchange for temporary residence.

Likewise, 1,924 humanitarian rescues have been carried out in the state, mainly nationals from Venezuela and Colombia. Of the total, 323 have been girls, boys and adolescents.

Electronic Appointment System for foreigners in Mexico
The INM reported that as of August 23, 2024, when Chiapas and Tabasco joined as entities in which a foreign person obtained an appointment to freely transit the country, the modality has been extended to other entities, such as Hidalgo, where licenses for free transit can also be issued with a validity of 20 days, while the foreigner obtains his interview to go to the northern border.

In addition to this, the Institute offers land transportation to the northern border cities where they must attend the CBP One appointment. These actions were recently supervised at an Evaluation meeting of the Representation Office of the National Institute of Migration in the state of Hidalgo, by the general director of Migration Control and Verification of the INM, Antonio Andrés Vidal Islas and the head of the OR, in the state, Sergio A. Martínez C. Arroyo.

This is due to the increase in the number of foreigners entering the country illegally, which in 2019 numbered more than 170,000 and from January to September 2024 alone exceeded 2.1 million.
