New sites with possible clandestine graves detected in Veracruz

In the state of Veracruz, new points with possible clandestine graves were detected, where search efforts continue by groups of relatives of missing persons, accompanied by federal forces.

Veracruz remains among the entities in the country with the most clandestine graves and human remains exhumed at these sites, according to data from the Data Cívica organization.

The states with the most bodies exhumed from clandestine graves from 2006 to June 2023, according to local prosecutors, are Jalisco (1,269), Sonora (655) and Veracruz (546); together they account for 40 percent of the total.

On Monday, September 23, search groups and elements of the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the Navy (Semar) began work to locate human remains on a property in Cerro de Guadalupe.

Since 2023, relatives of missing persons reported that they had indications that there was a plot of land with a clandestine grave on the aforementioned hill.

The cases of missing persons in the Huatusco region have also been constant, especially during 2011 and 2012.

The three states with the most graves found from 2006 to June 2023, according to local prosecutors, are Sonora (750), Veracruz (548) and Tamaulipas (475).

According to local prosecutors, from 2006 to June 2023 there are a total of 4,565 clandestine graves, 6,253 bodies of people and 4,662 fragments reported.
