Tourists complain that charioteers ‘dig their nails into them’

Tourists visiting Mazatlán have raised their voices against the public transportation service for hire, mainly the charioteers.

They say that, despite the large influx of visitors, the cost to travel from a hotel in Cerritos to the Mazatlán Lighthouse ranges between 500 and 700 pesos.

“We know that it is not close, but those amounts are large to take us to the Lighthouse, others charge us the same, but they offer the ride, so don’t be fooled, just because we are tourists doesn’t mean they have to hang on to the costs,” said Alejandra, a tourist originally from Celaya, Guanajuato.

Many comment that they had been told that this price corresponded to a ride, which has caused confusion.

“They charge us about 500 or 700 pesos, but it’s for the tour and it also includes a stop to take photos or see something like that, but these people want to charge more and that’s not right, honestly, they’re not being fair, if you charge me that for a tour, go ahead,” she added.

Faced with these rates, some choose to take buses to save money.

However, they have also mentioned that certain service providers have recommended that they report these practices.

“We prefer to take buses, we save a lot of money and they give us the same tour, just imagine, many who work in transportation have told us that we report them for being too long,” said the tourist.
