Traveling to Mazatlán? Bullfights cancelled after Sinaloa Cartel violence

En la carretera Durango-Mazatlán se desataron narcobloqueos este jueves 27 de septiembre.

This Thursday, known as black for many activities between Durango and Mazatlán (Sinaloa), the companies Ómnibus de México and Estrella Blanca, which are dedicated to passenger transportation, suspended the runs, due to the narco-blockades that were reported this Thursday, September 26.

During the course of the day, at least two passenger trucks were intercepted by armed civilians and the tourists were forced to get off the units that were set on fire.

Around 200 people were left adrift, and were forced to walk for kilometers until they reached a school in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, in the town of Chavarría.

The authorities of that demarcation came to their aid after receiving a call through 911, and in this way they managed to rescue them and help them get to their places of origin, many of them from Durango.

Mazatlán bus routes suspended

After these events, through official accounts and in the same Central Bus Station of Durango they announced the suspension of these routes until further notice, due to the conditions of uncertainty and insecurity that are experienced in this area.

“We regret to inform that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are forced to temporarily suspend the Mazatlán-Durango and Durango-Mazatlán departures, we appreciate your understanding,” Estrella Blanca posted on its official Facebook and X accounts.

The passenger transport company Estrella Blanca also manages the Chihuahuenses and Valle del Guadiana transport lines, which fall within this restriction that is being made as a preventive measure.

For its part, Ómnibus de México published on its social networks: “Notice to travelers. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Durango to Mazatlán and Mazatlán to Durango routes are temporarily suspended. We appreciate your understanding.”

Black Thursday on the Durango-Mazatlán highway

The Durango-Mazatlán highway was closed throughout Thursday, which has been called another “black day.”

The highway and the free road leading from Durango to Mazatlán were closed from the early hours of Thursday, with numerous vehicles set on fire, including two passenger buses and at least four cargo transports.

The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat confirmed the death of several people in clashes in the area on the Culiacán side, as well as the location of a clandestine grave and two bodies in the El Sinaloense tunnel.

There were long lines throughout the day, until permission was given to return to Durango, but the highway remains closed tonight.
