Lucero Sánchez López, known as La Chapodiputada, has called for peace in the midst of the internal war that is being fought in Sinaloa for control of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In a video posted on her TikTok account, Sánchez López expressed her solidarity with the inhabitants of Sinaloa and proposed joining a campaign for peace that will take place this Thursday, September 26.
The clashes began after the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada on July 25 by United States authorities. The arrest of the cartel leader, who was allegedly kidnapped in Mexico and flown to US territory by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of El Chapo Guzmán, unleashed an internal war that has left dozens dead, wounded and missing since September 9.
The factions in conflict are Los Chapitos, led by the sons of Joaquín Guzmán Loera; and La Mayiza, commanded by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, son of El Mayo.
In his message, Sánchez López lamented the critical situation that Sinaloa is going through and criticized the Mexican government for not having prevented the war and not having protected the state to safeguard the security of its inhabitants.
“Unfortunately, the Mexican government rested on its laurels and did not anticipate the war that was coming and did not protect the state of Sinaloa to safeguard the security of all its inhabitants, they were too confident, I do not know what happened with the government’s intelligence,” he criticized.
He also asserted that since the first attempt to arrest Ovidio Guzmán López, alias El Ratón and son of El Chapo, it was public knowledge that these criminal groups are “prepared for any eventuality of this type” and warned that this war could be even worse than the one unleashed in 2008 against the Beltrán Leyva.
For this reason, she invited the people of Sinaloa to join the peace campaign to be held this Thursday with the objective of “calling on these groups to keep the state calm, to respect all the inhabitants who are not involved in this unfortunate war […] to make these groups aware that Sinaloa needs to live without fear, its inhabitants and its children need to recover tranquility, stability and above all Sinaloa needs to recover its economy since it is in a very critical situation,” she said.
Likewise, the Chapodiputada shared an image on her social network where she shared information about the “campaign for peace in Sinaloa” that will take place on September 26 at 5:00 p.m. (local time). Citizens are invited to light a white candle in the street and place a white flag or garment as a symbol of peace, and they will also pray for missing persons.
Who is the Chapodiputada?
Lucero Guadalupe Sánchez López, originally from Cosalá, Sinaloa, went from being a young congresswoman to a key figure in the life of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán in the United States.
She met Guzmán Loera at age 21 and had a romantic relationship with him even though he was already married to Emma Coronel; she also collaborated in drug trafficking activities.
During the so-called trial of the century against the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, Sánchez López provided text messages and letters that were crucial to Guzmán’s life sentence in 2019.
Sánchez López was elected local deputy for district XVI in 2013, backed by the coalition “Unidos Ganas Tú”. Her political career was tarnished in April 2015 when she visited El Chapo in the maximum security prison of El Altiplano using false documents, which resulted in the withdrawal of her parliamentary immunity once this situation was discovered. A year later, she was arrested at the Cross Border Xpress (CBX) in San Diego, United States.
During her trial, she pleaded guilty to conspiring to import and distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. Her sentence was reduced thanks to her cooperation with the US authorities, testifying against Guzmán Loera at the trial held in January 2019.
Recently, Sánchez López published a book entitled “La Chapo Diputada: Mi historia con el señor de la montaña”, where she narrates her life from her humble beginnings to her relationship with El Chapo and her involvement in drug trafficking.
