Preparations begin for the “Crocodile Patrol” in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

The “Crocodile Patrol” will soon be launched, an initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and tourists in the presence of crocodiles in areas near bodies of water in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The objective is to ensure harmonious coexistence with the species, avoiding accidents and attacks.

The municipal president, Liz Tapia Castro, highlighted that she worked on this priority project for her administration many years ago when she was director of the Environment, and it was very successful.

It will now be resumed with a team trained in crocodile management. The program will include the training of technicians specialized in the management of saurians, who will be in charge of preventive work and response to possible risks.

She explained that they are already in contact with the specialists and it is expected that the training will begin in November. In addition, as part of the monitoring strategy, the municipal government has decided to collaborate with Civil Protection to carry out aerial surveillance using drones; They will be carried out in the mornings, in order to detect the presence of crocodiles and issue timely alerts to the population about the risks in transit areas.
