The Expo Vivienda Canadevi 2024 was the stage for the launch of a sustainable social housing program by the government led by Joaquín Díaz Mena, through the Yucatán Housing Institute.
According to Governor Díaz Mena’s speech at the inauguration ceremony at the Siglo XXI Convention Center, this is an integral development plan prioritizing the financing of dignified housing for those in need, strengthening infrastructure, and improving essential services.
“Access to dignified housing is a human right. I see it not just as public policy but as a commitment to social justice. Through IVEY, we will promote direct support programs for the families most in need, provide accessible financing, and necessary guidance to help families achieve their dream of having a dignified home,” he said.
The governor also urged housing developers to consider social housing and ensure their projects are well-planned for safe family living, with services that provide stability and a healthy environment for children, while respecting the natural surroundings, as sustainability is now a necessity.
What can I find at Expo Vivienda Canadevi 2024?
The Expo Vivienda gathered 90 exhibitors offering around 3,000 properties, including houses, apartments, townhouses, villas, lofts, beach homes, and serviced urban lots.
Exhibitors also offer construction materials, remodeling projects, mortgage financing, and home products and services.
During the tour of the housing promotion halls, the governor and Mérida’s mayor, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, listened to various ongoing projects in Mérida, Conkal, Kanasín, Umán, Progreso, Valladolid, and other municipalities in the state.
Real Estate Fraud Reported in Mérida
However, the governor heard a serious complaint from around 200 people defrauded in the Pedregales de Misnebalam subdivision, attributed to Miguel Aguayo De Pau.
Guadalupe Bonilla and Alma Estrada managed to present this issue to Governor Díaz Mena, handing him a folder with documents allegedly proving the housing promoter’s fraud. “I will review it,” offered the Executive Chief.
Businessman Donates Land for the University of Well-being
A happy moment for the governor was when businessman Pedro Solís Millet, from Crear Hogares, informed him of a land donation in Kanasín for the construction of the University of Well-being.
The governor immediately called IVEY director Felipe Cervera Hernández and asked him to coordinate with the businessman to finalize this land donation, with the governor defining the measurements according to the educational facility’s requirements.
Although most housing developers informed the governor and Mayor Patrón Laviada of their projects during the visits, Monterrey investor Miguel Cagnasso Cantú, of Italian descent, showed the Esmeralda Residencial subdivisions with 1,600 mid-range homes and another project starting in Ucú with 3,000 homes.
The businessman informed the authorities that one of the innovations is that the subdivision parks are well-equipped, have several amenities, and educate residents to maintain recreational spaces themselves.
In these two projects, Misión Obispado is investing $7 billion. The two-level homes are priced between $1.3 million and $2.3 million.
Mérida Should Grow in an Orderly and Sustainable Manner: Cecilia Patrón
Mayor Cecilia Patrón emphasized that the Expo Vivienda Canadevi 2024 is a significant event in southeastern Mexico, and the real estate sector plays a fundamental role in the economic development of Yucatán and Mérida.
She agreed with the governor that families deserve quality housing and dignified public spaces.
She also called on developers to work together to ensure Mérida grows in an orderly and sustainable manner, prioritizing a greener and more sustainable environment in their developments.
“The new way of governing faces the challenge of facilitating regulatory improvement and urban procedures for builders,” she said.
“We must ensure that new developments meet the real demand of those who will inhabit these spaces, ensuring long-term success and sustainability.”
Sergei López Cantón, president of Canadevi and organizer of the Expo Vivienda Canadevi 2024, provided a summary after the inauguration and tour of the exhibitors by the governor and the mayor of Mérida, along with the mayors of Progreso, Conkal, Umán, and Kanasín.
The goal is for developers to directly sell around 300 homes during the four-day event, from today until Sunday, and for a larger number to begin the financing process.
Where is the Expo Vivienda Canadevi 2024 Held?
They expect this wide range of housing options to attract around 8,000 visitors to the Siglo XXI Convention Center.
She appreciated that Governor Díaz Mena has social housing in his strategic development agenda and is considering building Ciudad Ucú with a vision of shared prosperity.
She noted that during the dialogue between the governor and developers, positive expectations were heard in this industry, and she believes the housing industry is a perfect catalyst to realize the state government’s housing projects.
Canadevi Unaware of Yucatán Government’s Housing Projects
Canadevi is not aware of the state government’s housing projects and hopes to be invited to participate soon. However, the fact that they are considering a city with 10,000 homes, industrial parks, and service facilities is wonderful because it means people won’t need to travel from one place to another within the same city.
