In Baja California, more than 430 thousand vehicles of foreign origin, better known as “chocolate cars”, have been regularized, said the director of the State Tax Administration Service (SATBC), Gustavo Santos Hernández.

He mentioned that the decree by which the Foreign Vehicle Regularization Program was created was extended until September 30, 2026.

Said decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) in 2022, by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who established that the money raised would be used for paving and patching in the municipalities.

Since then, and until this Thursday, more than 430 thousand chocolate cars have been regularized in Baja California, raising 775 million pesos to date, said Gustavo Santos Hernández.

The director of SATBC mentioned that with this resource, the different Municipal Councils carried out 153 paving works, with which more than 548 thousand square meters of surface were rehabilitated.

Regarding the collection by Municipality, he detailed that Tijuana was the one that collected the most to date, adding up to nearly 350 million pesos since the program began; followed by Mexicali, which also includes San Felipe, with 214 million pesos; Ensenada, which also includes San Quintín, with 131 million pesos; Tecate, with 49 million; and Playas de Rosarito, with 30 million.

In this regard, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, stressed that the administration of said resources corresponds merely to the different Municipalities, who must carry out the tenders and approve the projections to carry out each paving work.

In this regard, Avila Olmeda announced the publication of a state decree so that during October a 100 percent exemption will be applied for late payment of license plates, registration cards and fines; while in November it will be 50 percent and in December it will be 25 percent.
