Asian Tourism to Arrive in Tulum in 2025

As part of promotional activities and business meetings with travel agencies at the Tokyo Jata Tourism Expo 2024, an increase in Asian tourism to Tulum is expected early next year, according to Mario Cruz Rodríguez, a tourism and business promoter.

During the presentation of Tulum at the Mexican Pavilion, Cruz Rodríguez highlighted the success of the destination’s tourism catalog, known for its beauty and appeal in the region.

He emphasized that Tulum is being promoted alongside significant projects such as the new International Airport, the Jaguar Park, and the Maya Train, in addition to its cenotes and natural areas, enhancing its profile as a tourist destination.

Cruz Rodríguez also stressed that sustainable tourism has the potential to transform communities by creating jobs, fostering inclusion, and strengthening local economies.

He mentioned that they had meetings with Kiyota Masato and Hanza Nobuko from Kanko Japan, to whom they presented the tourism catalog highlighting Tulum’s natural beauty and the success of the International Airport. This collaboration aims to strengthen the strategic alliance with new emerging markets in Asia.

The goal of the new airport in the “Maya Jungle” is to connect Tulum with the world, with the aspiration of establishing direct flights to Tokyo through Aeroméxico, which already operates direct routes to Mexico City.

Cruz Rodríguez added that positive expectations and meetings were achieved with companies such as México Kanko Japan, Yamazaki, Global Pacifico, Plm Shintaro, Makato Tsumita, and Kotfa Tourism Exhibitions, which are interested in the Mexican Caribbean and Tulum. It was agreed to coordinate a familiarization trip for the main travel agencies of Japan in early 2025.

“This effort has led to several meetings, especially with Kanko Japan, which has been operating in Mexico and Japan for years. With the new International Airport in Tulum connecting with the world, there is expected to be growing interest from various airlines to include our destination in their routes to Tokyo, which currently has direct flights to Mexico City,” he concluded.
