Flights Canceled in Mérida Due to Hurricane Milton

Due to the impact of Hurricane Milton, which has currently reached Category 5 and is approaching the Gulf of Mexico, Mérida airport has canceled operations.

Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), which manages Mérida International Airport, has informed that all flights scheduled for today, October 7, are being canceled as a preventive measure due to adverse weather conditions.

Flight Cancellations and Impact on Air Traffic

Starting from the early hours of the morning, Mérida airport stopped receiving incoming and outgoing flights, and more than a dozen national and international flights have been canceled or rescheduled until further notice. Airlines have begun contacting affected passengers to rebook them on later flights or offer refund options.

Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris, among other airlines, have confirmed the cancellation of flights connecting Mérida with destinations such as Mexico City, Cancún, Monterrey, and some international points. It is expected that cancellations will continue throughout the day until conditions improve.

Safety Measures for Passengers

Airport authorities have asked passengers not to go to the airport unless they have already confirmed the rescheduling of their flight or have been instructed to do so by the airline. Mérida International Airport will remain closed until safety conditions are assessed to resume operations.

Additionally, travelers are advised to stay updated on their flights through airline websites and mobile apps, as well as local authorities who continue to monitor the hurricane’s progress.
