This Sunday, Campeche’s Coast Was Adorned with Faith and Traditions During the Exciting “Sea Procession” in Honor of Saint Francis of Assisi

More than 400 parishioners joined this procession, led by the ‘August 7’ fishermen’s guild, who sailed the waters in eight coastal boats over more than four kilometers.

This fervent event reaffirmed the devotion to the patron saint of animals and the environment. Despite the ‘blue’ alert issued by the Civil Protection Secretariat (Seprocicam) due to the proximity of Tropical Storm Milton, which threatened heavy rains in at least nine municipalities, participants did not let the bad news dampen their spirits.

The love for the revered image shone brighter than any storm. The Catholics, with hearts full of faith, accompanied the revered image on its journey across the sea, thus framing the patron saint festivities in its honor.

This also marks a special milestone, as it celebrates 484 years since the founding of the Villa de San Francisco de Campeche.

The previous week, the community had already begun the festivities with their traditional descent, which attracted a large number of faithful to the church.
