A Yucatecan woman shared the reason why the inhabitants of Mérida are not interested in committing crimes, claiming it is one of the safest cities in the state.
According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SENSP) until August 2024, Yucatán ranks second to last in crime incidence nationwide with a total of 2,806 cases.
On the other hand, the state at the top of the list is Aguascalientes with a total of 29,089 cases up to the same month this year, followed by Baja California with 76,416.
Due to this, Vicky shared on TikTok the reason why the inhabitants of Mérida do not usually commit crimes like in other states of the Mexican Republic, which she observed while walking through a shopping mall with a friend.
“The other day I was at a mall walking around, and suddenly when we were leaving, we saw a lady with a stroller crying bitterly,” the Yucatecan recounted.
According to Vicky, the woman was inconsolable while talking to a security guard, which seemed very strange to them, but they decided to continue on their way to the car they were driving.
“Once we left, we were in the car, and on the street, we saw a patrol that had detained some people, and my friend said to me: I think they stole a child.”
Upon her friend’s comment, Vicky believed it could indeed be the theft of a minor; however, a few seconds later, her companion told her that it could not be that, as no one in Mérida would be interested in committing a crime with the intense heat.
“Who is going to steal a child with this damn heat? It’s the clear example of why Yucatecans are hardly criminals,” she commented.
Due to this, the Yucatecan assured that people are not interested in stealing because it is too hot to leave their homes to commit crimes: “It’s that here you can’t do anything, we don’t want to go out, they say we are slow, that we are lazy, well of course, we don’t feel like doing anything, not even committing a crime.”

For their part, social media users did not hesitate to share their comments regarding Vicky’s video, who commented that it is a great reason why they would not go out to commit crimes.
