
The National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) has deployed 660 elements of the National Guard and the Army in the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán since October 1.
Days after implementing this strategy, eight alleged criminals have been arrested and 10 high-powered firearms, a grenade launcher, 66 magazines, 1,660 cartridges of various calibers, two grenades, five vehicles and more than 130 kg of marijuana have been seized.
The agency reported that the personnel conduct security patrols on lemon routes and visits to packing plants.
Escorts are also provided to vehicles that transport lemon from production fields to storage sites and markets where it is sold.
The personnel were deployed in the municipalities of Apatzingán, Buenavista, Parácuaro, Múgica, Tepalcatepec and Aguililla.
According to the agency, the uniformed officers operate in accordance with the provisions of the National Law on the Use of Force and respecting human rights to promote the conditions that guarantee the production, packaging, transportation and marketing of citrus products.
Sedena stressed that these actions will continue to be carried out uninterruptedly in coordination with the authorities of the three levels of government.
