Mérida Will Seek to Attract More National and Regional Tourism in the Coming Years

The Mérida City Council will strengthen its tourism promotion policies and programs to attract a greater number of national and regional tourists, who generate the most economic impact and service occupancy, reported the Director of Tourism of the Municipality, Armando Casares Espinosa.

In an interview during the presentation of the VII Edition of the Mucbipollo Fair (details of which are provided in a separate note), he specified that the new municipal administration wants to focus its promotional efforts on cities and states with direct flights, such as Mexico City, Villahermosa, Veracruz, Oaxaca, State of Mexico, Tijuana, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, among others.

Similarly, there is significant interest in attracting people who could reach Mérida by road, such as those living in Quintana Roo and Campeche, who are often drawn to Mérida not only by its tourist offerings but also by its medical services and extensive commercial offerings.

“Mérida is the commercial center of southeastern Mexico, and we want to take advantage of that to increase the influx of visitors from the region, who come to shop or see a doctor, but also to experience our festivals and cultural offerings,” he added.

In this regard, he announced that next week, a trip to Mexico City will be made, led by Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, where there will be a meeting with national media to promote the tourist products we have, such as the Festival of the Souls, Mérida Fest 2025, La Noche Blanca, and the Mérida City Marathon, among others.

“The press conference is on the 16th, and we hope that the announcement of this cultural and entertainment offering will serve as a relaunch of Mérida as a quality destination with a wide range of attractions,” he said.

The idea is to promote them in advance so that Mérida is seen as what it is, a city with a great cultural and tourist vocation, and in coordination with the Yucatán Hotel Association, travel agencies, and tourism promoters to generate packages and offers that increase hotel occupancy and overnight stays, and therefore, the economic impact in the city, he concluded.
