Preventive Detention Ordered for Alleged Femicide of a 92-Year-Old Woman in Mérida

A man accused of the femicide of a 92-year-old woman has been charged and will remain in preventive detention as a precautionary measure.

The events investigated by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) indicate that on September 22 in the Salvador Alvarado Sur neighborhood of Mérida, the man attacked the elderly woman.

The individual entered the elderly woman’s home and proceeded to physically attack her, causing multiple injuries.

After studies conducted by experts from this agency, the cause of death was determined to be blunt chest trauma.

During the hearing in the First Control Court, the litigation prosecutors argued for the linkage to the process; however, the accused requested that his legal situation be resolved within the constitutional period of 144 hours, so the Judge summoned both parties for October 14.

Finally, the judicial authority determined that the accused should remain in custody while the process against him is carried out as a precautionary measure.
