The General Director of Grupo Cantón, Miguel Cantón Zetina, toured the Casa de Artesanías Tabasco (Casa Mora), located in the CICOM area, where he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the guild of artisans of Tabasco. He also expressed his support for the head of the Institute for the Promotion of Tabasco Handicrafts (IFAT), Vianey Rodríguez Torres.

More than 40 exhibitors, including Yokot’an artisans and women with a distinguished career in Tabasco handicrafts, from municipalities such as Centla, Centro, Nacajuca, and Jalpa de Méndez, participated in the artisan corridor, which is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 5 PM, promoting their products and creations.

“We, as a family, have always intended to support talent, but today, personally, I am greatly surprised to see that this Tabasco talent is accompanied by the pride of our roots,” said Cantón Zetina.

A GREAT ALLY

For her part, the head of IFAT, Vianey Rodríguez Torres, acknowledged the willingness and love for Tabasco culture of the director of Grupo Cantón.

“We have a great ally in Mr. Miguel Cantón. He will help us spread the culture of our state, he is a great promoter and loves our traditions. We are not alone,” she said emotionally.

ART WITH TABASCO HANDS

During the tour, Esteban de la Cruz de la Cruz presented his 100% handmade work, using leather and other natural materials to create products such as traditional card and domino games. He also showed his women’s bags made with tarpon skin, a fish abundant in his native Centla.

Another notable artisan was José Ángel García García, from Tamulté de las Sabanas, who makes indigenous handcrafted spinning tops typical of the region.

Additionally, as a plastic artist and muralist, he exhibited comales painted with the acrylic on comal technique, paintings, decorated fans, among other unique pieces.

TRADITIONAL EMBROIDERY • Rosa Gloria Zapata López, from the municipality of Nacajuca, a textile artisan specializing in the creation of embroidered strips, fans, and hats using the lomillo stitch technique, dazzled the attendees. During the event, she showcased an innovative fan with delicate embroidered strips that captured everyone’s attention.

ANCESTRAL CRAFTSMANSHIP • Pedro Méndez Luciano, from the municipality of Centla and a speaker of the Yokot’an mother tongue, shared his ancestral knowledge in the creation of products based on Tabasco vegetation, as well as the production of organic honey, chili, mango jam, grape syrup, and pitahaya peel jam.

CREATES TOYS • Jorge Luis Zepeda Sarao presented the products of “Artesanías El Tío Coco.” As a master in working with hard fibers, he specializes in the creation of handcrafted toys, highlighting the use of materials such as coconut fiber, jícara, patasté, cacao, and bamboo. With these resources, he creates various handcrafted toys designed to promote healthy fun among children.

DELIGHTS THE PALATE • Ana Jasso García, from Emiliano Zapata and entrepreneur of “Panetelas Montecristo,” with 15 years of experience in making typical sweets of the region, such as meringues and traditional panetelas, thanked Cantón Zetina for opening spaces for the dissemination of handicrafts and products made in Tabasco.
