The show “Querétaro, Tierra Viva” is a showcase of the innovations being cultivated by the Institution in the fields of arts and humanities.
The Folkloric Company of the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) participated in the 2024 National Dance Meeting (ENDMéxico), organized by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), in the Medium Format category, with the multimedia stage show “Querétaro, Tierra Viva” in Xalapa, Veracruz.
Among more than 200 applications, the representative group of the Alma Mater of Querétaro was one of the four selected to present their performance, where they executed the typical dances of the region, such as Huapango, the dances of the Concheros, the Shepherdesses, and San Francisco, in a discursive, aesthetic, and avant-garde manner.
Since its inception in 2014 and with its ninth edition in 2024, ENDMéxico has been dedicated to showcasing dance activities, establishing itself as a space for dialogue on the diversity of practices in all regions of the country, promoting the exchange of knowledge, professionalization, and strengthening of networks among the involved agents.
According to the General Director of the Company, Mtra. Dolores Zúñiga Sánchez, one of the objectives of this participation was to showcase the work being done by this House of Studies on a national platform; as well as to identify and engage with the status of the discipline in its various branches through the program of activities, which included workshops such as systemic choreography, a technique that, although belonging to the contemporary branch, is also applicable to folklore.
Additionally, the Deputy Director, Mtro. Héctor Córdoba Rodríguez, emphasized that orthodox methods are not opposed to modernity, as it is essential to propose stage models that preserve traditions while being competitive and attractive to the public. He also noted that UAQ’s presentation in this event is a testament to how the Institution is innovating in sectors such as humanities and arts.
Currently, the university ensemble is working on the development of stage, audiovisual, and editorial productions—especially aimed at children—with the aim of enhancing identity and preserving the richness of traditions. At the same time, it is awaiting the designation as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State by the head of the Executive Power, Lic. Mauricio Kuri González.
