Michael Howard “N”, a 42-year-old American citizen, was arrested by elements of the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC), in collaboration with authorities of the United States of America, after being required in New York as the probable person responsible for the murder of a woman that occurred in November 2023.

The subject, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, had an arrest warrant issued by the Court of Justice of the State of New York, in Wyoming County, for the crime of second-degree murder against Cheryl “N”, 53 years old.

The arrest took place on October 11, around 3:10 p.m., when the ministerial agents located the accused in front of a convenience store on Sinaloa and Melchor Ocampo streets, in the Centro neighborhood of Puerto Peñasco, where he was washing vehicles to survive.

The individual faces charges for the murder of his roommate, Cheryl “N”, who was found dead on November 7, 2023. The preliminary autopsy indicated that the cause of death was strangulation.

After committing the crime, Michael Howard “N” fled to Mexico, crossing the border at the San Ysidro checkpoint, located between San Ysidro, California and Tijuana, Baja California, in a 2012 Toyota Corolla vehicle that belonged to the victim.

After his capture by the AMIC, the defendant was handed over to the National Migration Institute (INM), which coordinated his transfer to the Lukeville Border Checkpoint in Arizona, where he was handed over to the US authorities for processing.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE), through the AMIC, reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with national and international agencies to combat crime and ensure that those responsible face justice, regardless of their origin or nationality.
