Former Cosamaloapan Police Commander Shot Dead in Front of His 8-Year-Old Daughter

Rafael Guadalupe Cordero Vergara, former first commander of the Municipal Police of Cosamaloapan, Veracruz, was murdered in front of the municipal palace of that city in the Papaloapan basin region.

The murder occurred during the afternoon of Wednesday, October 16, when armed civilians killed the former police commander a few meters from his car, a Nissan Versa, which was parked on Adolfo Ruiz Cortines and Morelos streets.

The former officer had just picked up his eight-year-old daughter from school when he was shot by men traveling aboard a mobile unit. The minor was unharmed, but suffered a nervous breakdown.

After this attack in front of Plaza Río and the central park, a Code Red security operation was activated.

Police and citizens broke the car’s window to check the police officer’s condition and get the minor out of it. It is not known at this time that there are any people arrested.

Hours earlier, in the municipality of Paso del Macho, an 18-year-old youth was killed, his body lying in front of the ‘Macumba’ bar on Guerrero Street in the Reforma neighborhood.

The area was cordoned off by police and the body was taken to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service for official identification. Witnesses report that the victim was known as Santiago.
