Good tourist influx expected in Zihuatanejo for Day of the Dead

The president of the Association of Hotels and Motels, Rogelio Lozano Calderón, reported that so far hotel occupancy has remained medium to low in this municipality.

Lozano Calderón pointed out that, given the proximity of the long weekend for the Day of the Dead in the country, the hotel sector in the city is in a state of uncertainty after the recent occupancy figures.

In statements, the president of the Association highlighted that at least in the last two weekends the arrival of some tourists to the hotel zone of the municipality has been seen.

He added that although Zihuatanejo was not greatly affected by the rains of Hurricane John, tourists from neighboring states preferred not to risk visiting the city.

“After having nothing, now with 30 percent occupancy is very good for us and we hope that it continues to grow as the month progresses and the constant torrential rains decrease,” he said.

He also acknowledged that this year, unlike previous years, there was a very drastic decrease due to the presence of rains, which he said, “did not affect the infrastructure but did affect the economic situation.”

He indicated that for the rest of October they expect the arrival of more tourism.

“We hope that the Day of the Dead festivities will be a reason for the rebound of our occupancy and exceed at least 50 percent,” he said.
