NL, Jalisco and Veracruz, with more occurrences of dengue

Three states lead the figures for dengue cases in the country in epidemiological week 40 of the year, according to figures from the Epidemiological Bulletin of the National Surveillance System of the Ministry of Health (SS).

Nuevo León has 322 cases, 15 of them serious, and so far this year it has accumulated 5,153 infections; Jalisco, 266, 50 of them dangerous, and totaling 8,436 incidents; while Veracruz, with 255 infected, 12 critical, accumulates 5,296.

Only in epidemiological week 40, 2,398 cases were reported in the country, while throughout the year there are 75,076, details the report.

EMERGENCY DECLARATION

On October 8, the Nuevo Leon Congress unanimously approved an exhortation to Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda to issue an emergency declaration for the more than 5,000 infections reported in the state, the highest figure in the last 20 years.

PRI deputy Ivonne Álvarez García asked to convene all sectors to an action plan for the epidemic of this virus.

Most of the cases are concentrated in Monterrey, Guadalupe and Santa Catarina.

JALISCO, ON ALERT

The Secretary of Health of Jalisco, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, explained about the cases of this disease that “in dengue we had 842 cases, reaching 8,436 cases. We have only one death that is proven.”

However, he denied that the infections are out of control, because there are no collapsed medical services and they represent 19 percent of hospitalizations, although he admitted that a specialized care area has already been created in the Zoquipan public hospital.

VERACRUZ, FOURTH PLACE

While Veracruz, with more than 5 thousand infected, 13 confirmed deaths are reported from this disease. In epidemiological week 40, the entity registered an increase in deaths compared to the same period between 2023 and 2024, since last year there were four in that time.

Last year, by this date, there were more accumulated cases, 6 thousand 402; however, this year the figure is lower, with 5 thousand 296 incidents.

And Guerrero asks to declare emergency

On behalf of the PRD Parliamentary Group, the deputy Mirna Coria Medina proposed to urge the Secretary of Administration and Finance of the State Government (Sefina), Raymundo Segura Estrada, so that, to the extent of budgetary capacity, resources are allocated to programs to combat and treat diseases caused by the recent floods of Hurricane John, mainly dengue.

A bulletin reported that when presenting her proposal from the podium, the legislator said that last August, the Guerrero Health Secretariat confirmed an outbreak of aggressive and atypical dengue that, compared to previous years, generated 5,613 confirmed cases and 30 deaths, with Acapulco, Chilpancingo, Iguala and Taxco de Alarcón being the most affected municipalities.
