The number of booths operating at the San Ysidro and Otay border crossings will soon be expanded to speed up border crossings, due to the return of security on the Mexican side.
It is estimated that there could be around seven booths operating in the coming weeks in San Ysidro.
This was one of the topics that the Secretariat of Economic Development of Tijuana (Sedeti) discussed with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in a meeting held in recent days.
Border security issue
Pedro Montejo Peterson, head of the secretariat, reported that around 70 thousand cars cross the border, and just over 50 do so without immigration documents.
Therefore, as it is a security issue, North American authorities install around seven agents to check before crossing.
Given this scenario, the proposal is that the city council take charge of the security issue, so that the agents return to the booths.
Traffic to cross into the US
In the past, there was talk of up to 25 booths operating in San Ysidro and now the average is 16, which causes traffic to the terminal in the mornings and General Hospital in Sentri, now with this we will have seven more booths open in the mornings,” he said.
He estimated that the issue of surveillance on the Mexican side will be through private security, who must receive training, be bilingual and be armed, this in order to request the passport and control other events that are recorded at the booths.
