The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) is analyzing the probability of canceling the 2024-2025 International Meetings of Rebellions and Resistances called “The Storm and the Day After,” scheduled for December 2024 to January 3, 2025 in Chiapas, due to the “lack of security for attendees,” reported Subcommander “Moisés.”
“Moisés” also denounced that for a few weeks now, residents of the Palestina community in Ocosingo have threatened the people of the Zapatista village of October 6, which is integrated into the Caracol of Jerusalem, with evicting them from the lands they have occupied and worked peacefully for more than three decades.
Before “this change” of government, the people of October 6 had lived in peace and harmony with neighboring populations without friction or problems, he indicated in a statement.
The Local Autonomous Government (GAL) and the Assembly of Collectives of Zapatista Autonomous Governments (ACEGAZ) of the Caracol Jerusalén, since the beginning of the conflict have insisted on dialogue and agreement with the communal authorities of Palestina without any result.
The authorities of Palestina, added “Moisés” point out that they have the support of the municipal authorities of Ocosingo and the government of Chiapas -PVEM and Morena respectively- and that they have instructions from these “bad governments” to give the aggressors the documentation that proves their ownership “over the stolen lands.”
The Zapatista leader stressed that the inhabitants of Palestina are aware that there is pressure from organized crime to have their companions evicted and that there are agreements between organized crime and different levels of government to legalize this “dispossession.”
The threats, he warned, have increased with the presence of armed people in Palestina, threats of rape of women, burning of homes, theft of crops, animals and belongings.
“Moisés” assured that the provocations do not diminish.
The Caracol of Jerusalem was one of the venues considered to hold the 2024-2025 resistance and rebellion meetings.
So, the rebel leader added, as they must be aware of the deterioration of “this serious situation, we will suspend all communication and information about these meetings and we will consider canceling them.”
The decision is because “there would be no security for those who attend anywhere in Chiapas. This is the reality of continuity with change in bad governments,” said Moisés.
