Second car bomb explodes today in Guanajuato; Now Jerécuaro was the target

A second car bomb exploded in Guanajuato, occurring in the municipal seat of Jerécuaro, on the morning of Thursday, October 24.

In addition to the explosion, a Public Security unit, 7 vehicles, and 9 commercial premises caught fire on Fray Ángel Juárez Street at the corner of Ocampo Alley.

The Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the events in both municipalities through a statement. “Regarding the events recorded in the municipalities of Acámbaro and Jerécuaro, it is reported: cells of the Criminal Investigation Agency with Experts and Investigation Agents are collecting information and evidence to clarify the facts, identify and capture the culprits.”

In Jerécuaro, no injuries were reported, only material damage. In Acámbaro, three injuries were reported – one woman seriously – and damage to properties.

Considering these events, Governor Libia Denisse stated that she suspended her agenda to meet with the mayors of both municipalities, SEDENA, and the National Guard.

“Immediately, we deployed an operation by land and air with the @FSPE_Gto (State Public Security Forces), in support of municipal police and in coordination with @SEDENAmx and @GN_MEXICO_,” she detailed.

So far, no criminal group has claimed responsibility for these almost simultaneous attacks.
