A fire broke out early Friday morning at a Mexican Army diesel depot used for the construction of the Mayan Train in Escárcega, Campeche. The incident led to the evacuation of 50 people from the area.
Emergency personnel worked for over four hours to control the flames. The fire occurred at 5:40 a.m. at the Collection Center of the National Defense Secretariat, located at kilometer 10 of the Escárcega-Chetumal highway in the Matamoros area.
The Escárcega Fire Department reported that the fire took place in a diesel fuel depot, prompting the evacuation of personnel. The internal Civil Protection brigade activated the emergency response plan and evacuated 50 people. The fire was contained to an isolated spot, preventing it from spreading to other areas.
Operational personnel continued cooling work throughout the afternoon. The fire damaged barrels, pipes, a bus, and heavy machinery. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. The area is secured by the National Guard and National Defense personnel, and no injuries have been reported.
