The National Meteorological Service (SMN) revealed a possible cyclone that has begun to develop in the low pressure zone located southeast of the Baja California peninsula, which would be named “Cyclone Lane.”
According to authorities, the area is being constantly monitored and currently has a 30% probability of cyclonic development that could be seen in the next 48 hours, while throughout the week it would reach 80%.
Its origin is specifically located 1,765 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, and continues to unfold westward maintaining a speed of 24 km/h.
Due to the low percentage of formation that it currently shows, experts have not yet specified the level of damage that this climatic phenomenon would cause in the country, although they affirm that the entities most affected due to intense rains would be Baja California, Baja California Sur and possibly Sinaloa.
What is a Low Pressure Zone?
The SMN describes a low pressure zone as the area in the atmosphere where the pressure is lower than in the surroundings. It is a system of isobars, with the minimum pressure in the center and the circulation counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere.
This in turn causes a large amount of showers and cloudiness. For now, the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) declared that so far 11 of the 18 phenomena of this type that would bring with it the 2024 Cyclone season have occurred.
