The second edition of the Mérida Open WTA 250 tennis tournament officially kicked off on Monday evening, bringing together some of the world’s top female players to the Yucatán Country Club courts.
In attendance at the ceremony were Mérida Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada and Armín Lizama Córdova, director of the State Sports Institute (IDEY). They led the proceedings, welcoming the participating athletes to the city.
“It’s time for women, and we’re thrilled that renowned tennis players have chosen Mérida as their destination,” said Mayor Patrón Laviada. “We hope they enjoy their stay and give their best on the courts.”
The main draw matches commenced at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, with Mexican Renata Zarazúa, the top seed in the tournament, set to take action until Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. match.
