In Querétaro, they hold a night march demanding justice for Esmeralda

Despite the heavy rain that broke out on Tuesday night, around a hundred cyclists and members of feminist and LGBT+ groups marched, almost at midnight, through the streets and avenues of the historic center of the Queretaro capital, demanding justice for the 14-year-old indigenous girl Esmeralda, who is facing criminal proceedings for homicide after having a spontaneous abortion after becoming pregnant from rape.

Some of the participants throughout the mobilization carried some pots and pans, beating them rhythmically with sticks or pipes while shouting slogans.

The protesters also demanded the resignation of the Querétaro prosecutor Víctor Antonio de Jesús Hernández, whom they described as racist, classist and misogynist.

The contingent left from the Corregidora Garden located on the Andador 16 de Septiembre in the Historic Center of the city of Querétaro and marched to the old offices of the Querétaro Prosecutor’s Office, where today the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Homicides is located, in the Parques Industriales subdivision where the file of the Esmeralda case is located.

“Girls are not to be touched,” and “Justice for Esme,” “Government complicit in raping,” were some of the slogans they shouted during the mobilization.

Outside the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Homicides, they read a statement in which they withdrew their repudiation of the accusation made against the girl for homicide and that if she is found guilty, she could be sentenced to three years in prison and to pay compensation of 500 thousand pesos to the person who raped her, who, having been exonerated, has legal status as the father of the baby that was aborted.
